two responses to a conformist society

i like red sneakers

men wearing optional blue uniforms
marching briskly in the same direction
they've all got a cause
though it may not be the same one

are they all different?
are they all the same?
where is the one who feels like an outsider?
oh, there he is...with the red sneakers on...

no blue button down for me
i am feeling fancy free

so what if I'm floating up stream
and slightly extreme

a hidden toe jewel
an extra ring
when i am moving with the pack
i am walking as i sing

sand castles & champagne

I can't read poetry
in the poetry aisle
I stand and I look
& I think for awhile

It will contaminate my thoughts
till I go insane
I would rather

build sand castles
& drink champagne

"it's good to talk"

& it's good to cry


she's a sunflower
she's a dream
she's quiet when she schemes

when she is sad the whole world knows

tears

fall
drip

roll...

& the horizon slowly silks up melting into it's usual cotton candy
ways
and marshmallow days...
